Gedebage Retention Pond, Solving Floods as well as a New Public Space

This was conveyed by the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana when inaugurating the Gedebage Retention Pond Landscape, Thursday 2 March 2023.

"The function of the retention pond has been inaugurated for its use. This has reduced the point of stagnant water that usually occurs in Gedebage. Today what is inaugurated is more for the public space," said Yana.

The retention pool involves various sectors, starting from regional apparatus organizations (OPD), the private sector, and other stakeholders.

He hopes that by building a landscape for public space, the community can participate in maintaining the function of the retention pond.

The plan is that this year the Bandung City Government will again endeavor to add a retention pond. Yana said that one of the flood points that will be resolved is the Cibaduyut area.

"We have built 9 retention ponds in the city of Bandung. If there is heavy rainfall, inundation points will still occur. With the presence of retention ponds and other programs to solve flood problems, inundation that usually takes days will recede in a matter of hours," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bandung City Highways Water Resources Service (DSDABM), Didi Ruswandi explained, the Gedebage intersection has been a frequent occurrence of floods since 15 years ago. Efforts that have been made include building a pump house with Summarecon in 2016.

"Then in 2017, a pump house was made in the Pinus housing complex. Then in 2020 this retention pond was built. There were problems at the auction. Finally, only in 2022 will we be able to work on the landscape and the bridge," explained Didi.

The volume capacity of the Gedebage Retention Pool reaches 5,425 cubic meters, with a depth of 3.5 meters, and an area of 1,550 square meters.

"The capacity of the pump house is 3 pumps. The capacity of one pump is 150 liters per second. So that one pump house has a capacity of 450 liters per second," he explained.

He added, this year there will be elevation and deepening of the river. However, still waiting for the auction. Apart from that, in the future another pump house will also be built.

"The total area as well as public space is around 7,000 square meters. The capacity here is bigger, so apart from the pumps having to run, the flow must also be good. If it has been raised and deepened, maybe this is relatively okay.
Except in Cinambo there is a bottleneck that must be resolved, but there is no budget yet," he said.

Until now, the total retention ponds that have been built by the Bandung City Government are 9 units and 12 pump houses. (din)**
