Zone One of Sarimukti Landfill Will Re-Open

To overcome the problem of waste accumulation that has occurred in the city of Bandung, zone one of the Sarimukti TPA will be reopened. This was conveyed by the Head of the Bandung City Environment and Sanitation Service (DLHK), Dudy Prayudi after the Bandung Responding event, Thursday 11 May 2023.

"The province will open a zone one route. So far there has only been one zone for sending garbage to TPS. As a result, the queues are getting longer which results in delays for us transporting garbage," said Dudy.

As a result of infrastructure damage in Sarimukti, one zone can only take one trip per day. Whereas before it could reach 2-3 rit.

"One trip of a small truck can carry 6 cubic meters of waste. For a large truck in one route it can carry 25 cubic meters of garbage," he said.

In addition, the efforts made by the Bandung City Government are to increase the fleet of heavy equipment. Because, with heavy equipment can transport garbage for one hour. Meanwhile, if the manual can reach 2-3 hours.

"For transportation, we first added a truckload of trucks at 55 TPS. But the problem now is the heavy equipment or loaders, which are only two in operation because they are very old. Even the newest one was in 1985," he explained.

Therefore, according to the direction of the Acting Mayor of Bandung, Ema Sumarna, the DLHK will add a new loader to the APBD which will speed up the process of transporting waste.

"There are 2 loaders approved by the Plh Mayor. Ideally there are six loaders," he said.

Apart from that, Dudy also mentioned that of the 55 polling stations that were overloaded, 25 polling stations had returned to normal. The rest is still being handled either by heavy equipment or manually.

"Yesterday's total piles of garbage at 55 TPS were around 3,000 cubic meters. Now around 2,000 cubic meters have been transported. There is still less than half left," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of UPTD PSTR DLHK West Java Province, Arief Perdana admitted that some of the Sarimukti TPA infrastructure was damaged.
So that previously there were two zones, currently only one zone has been operated until now.

"We are trying to open zone one which was previously closed. This week the road will be completed so that next week the city of Bandung will have two more zones to use. Hopefully, this can help break down the queues at Sarimukti," hoped Arief.

He added that the operational hours of garbage collection were extended. From 05.00-18.00 WIB, it changed to 05.00-21.00 WIB.

"It is impossible for us to open 24 hours because personnel and heavy equipment are also limited. Then for other efforts, this year Sarimukti will also be expanded by around 6 hectares," he continued.

As for the Legoknangka TPA, he said that currently it is still in the bidding process. There are two companies from Japan that will help build the Legoknangka TPA.

"We are giving them the opportunity to submit bidding documents until May 31, 2023. If it is appropriate, we will evaluate it in one month. Hopefully, there will be a winner in July. The first stone will be laid in August," he explained.

Furthermore, Pemprov will give two years for the construction. It is hoped that it will be operational in 2025 at the latest or 2026 at the latest.

"We don't want Legoknangka to be like in Sarimukti. We want to use waste processing technology. Because if it's just stockpiled, it will last 2 years and it will be full and we have to find new land," he admits.

The technology must be able to process 2,000 tons of waste per day. In addition, it must be able to reduce waste by a minimum of 85 percent, a maximum of 90 percent.

"It must also meet environmental standards. Because the budget costs are quite large for this Legoknangka landfill, the amount is IDR 4 trillion," he added. (din)**
