If things get better, then the Cicabe emergency TPA will be closed again by the Bandung City Government.

"If this happens, our commitment to Cicabe will be stopped, and we will return to Sarimukti," said Acting Mayor of Bandung, Ema Sumarna after holding an online meeting with PUPR, at the Bandung City Hall, Tuesday 16 May 2023.

"Thank God Sarimukti is getting better, there is an opportunity for the Bandung City Government to carry out 210 relocations again. This means that these 1,200 tons of waste have a potential opportunity to return to the landfill," he added.

Nevertheless, waste must still be managed properly so that the City of Bandung does not depend on the existence of the Sarimukti TPA.

According to Ema, educating the public is the main thing for waste management. So that it can finish at the source.

"On the one hand, public education is a necessity. Kang Pisman 3R or KBS (Waste Free Area) is our target. That's a long enough duration. Changing mindsets is not easy," said Ema.

He said the waste problem has become the attention of the central government. This is because waste management is a massive thing that needs to be kept informed.

"The waste problem in the city of Bandung has become a center of attention, in this case the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. The waste management has become massive and continues to be informed. The steps taken do not go days without handling. Be it at TPS, educating the public on how to resolve waste at households or TPS, " he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Human Settlement at the PUPR Ministry, Diana Kusumastuti said that waste management needs support from the government, both central and provincial.

"This has to be resolved and needs the support of the provincial government. So that the implementation needs coordination," he said.(yan)**
