For this reason, volunteer firefighters are really needed to be able to take preventive measures with strategic steps to reduce various types of fire risks. This is also a form of active community participation in fighting fires.

"Fires can threaten anywhere with very dense urban conditions, of course the city of Bandung is more at risk than other areas because housing conditions are increasingly dense," he said.

He said that currently there are 36,876 community members registered as volunteers and registering via the Redkar application spread across 34 provinces throughout Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bandung City Fire and Disaster Management Service (Diskar PB), Gun Gun Sumaryana, said that there were more than 2,500 fire volunteers in Bandung City, consisting of all sub-district representatives in 30 sub-districts in Bandung City.

"Today we confirm 525 people who have completed the Bimtek. We are collaborating with the regions to suggest who is interested in becoming a volunteer, the enthusiasm is extraordinarily high," said Gun Gun.

He said that in the future, Redkar's task will be to carry out prevention and outreach to the community. They are also trained to handle fires in early fires.

"One of their duties is that if a fire occurs, they are to contact Diskar PB. They are also involved when a disaster occurs," he said.

Gun Gun said that during 2023 there would be 330 cases and they were dominated by building fires.

"This is quite big because of the impact of El Nino where the weather is dry and the winds are strong, so the slightest spark can cause a fire," he said.

For this reason, he hopes that Redkar's presence can help the role of Diskar PB in dealing with fire and other disasters.
