Ramadan Safari: Improve Work Ethic During the Holy Month

Usually when fasting, a person will feel hungry and thirsty throughout the day so that the body will feel weak. The pain of a stomach without food intake and a dry mouth are one of God's ways of cultivating a sense of empathy in the hearts of every human being.

"Allah commands Muslims to fast as an exercise to form piety. For some people, fasting can make work less enthusiastic, study concentration decreases because of feeling sleepy. That's what everyone feels," said Assistant for Government and Social Welfare for the City of Bandung, Asep Saeful Gufron to Ramadan Safari activities, at the Al Ikhlas Mosque, Sekeloa Village, Coblong District, Wednesday 20 March 2024.

However, it turns out, continued Asep, that Islam places this feeling of weakness as a challenge in carrying out worship. The feeling of laziness that arises must actually be fought by getting rid of laziness through the enthusiasm to remain productive while undergoing saum.

"The saum command contained in QS Al-Baqarah 183 came down in the month of Sha'ban in the second year of the hijrah. When the Muslims were carrying out the saum worship, Allah ordered them to go to the Badr valley to fight with the Quraish polytheists. This was the first war in the history of Islam ," he explained.

Referring to these various events, Asep said that Ramadan teaches people to improve their work ethic. Even though you feel hungry and thirsty, it doesn't become an obstacle to remaining productive and creative.

Therefore, Asep invites the Muslims of Bandung City to improve their work ethic in the month full of grace.

"If work ethic increases during fasting, then productivity in the other eleven months, God willing, will increase too," he concluded. (yan)**
