Target of 3,000 Blood Pumpkins, Concerned Chinese Community Opens 3 Blood Donation Roadshow

Two lion dances to the tune of drum music. This red and yellow lion dance welcomes the arrival of Plt. Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana at the Blood Donation Road Show 3 at the Ballroom of the Ibis Hotel, Trans Studio Mall (TSM) Bandung, Monday, January 24, 2022.

On this occasion, Yana also donated blood. Starting from registration, health checks, blood type checks, and ends with the blood drawing process.

"Alhamdulillah, today there is a blood donation activity initiated by the Caring Chinese Community. Hopefully this activity can help PMI to procure blood stocks. For Bandung residents, let's donate blood to help our brothers and sisters in need," said Yana.

Yana appealed, even though the current pandemic situation in Bandung is still under control, the public still has to maintain health protocols (prokes). Because, there have been six residents of Bandung who have been detected as positive for the COVID-19 variant of the Omicron.

"There is no need to panic, we remain vigilant. These six people are local transmissions, there is no direct contact with people traveling from abroad," said Yana.

In view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in June last year, Yana said that the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) had prepared 700 beds. So far, 5 percent has been used.

"We hope that these mattresses will no longer be filled. In the sense that the pandemic in the city of Bandung will end soon. There will be no more spikes like last year," he said.

Even though now the covid variant is still circling us, Yana added, don't let people neglect other diseases that are no less dangerous, such as dengue fever (DHF).

"DHF currently exists, but the cases are not high. People need to pay attention to curved PVC gutters. The stagnant water in the basin can be a source of the Aedes aegypti mosquito," Yana said.

Departing from the same anxiety, Coordinator II of the Caring Chinese Community, Djoni Toat said, the background of this blood donor road show was the high demand for blood during the second wave of the pandemic.

"June last year, many people needed blood, but it was not met. Seeing the condition of the city of Bandung which lacked blood, we finally took the initiative to make this road show. And until now, we have run the third road show," explained Djoni.

Since 08.00 WIB, people have been flocking to come to donate blood. Seeing this enthusiasm, Djoni is optimistic that more blood pumpkins will be collected compared to the previous road show.

"The target for this third road show is to collect more than 3,000 blood pumpkins. Because, if you look at yesterday on the first day alone, there were 577 pumpkins," he said.

Djoni added that the first road show was held at six locations and 577 blood flasks were collected. Meanwhile, in the second road show, from nine locations, the Caring Chinese Community was able to collect 1,488 blood gourds.

Djoni said, the blood donor road show will be intensified again before the month of Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr.

"Based on information from PMI, usually at that time, PMI lacks blood stock. So, we will help by holding a roadshow again," said Djoni.

This third road show is planned to be spread to 14 locations. Trans Studio Mall (TSM) is the fourth location. There are still 10 more locations that will be used as blood donor road show booths.

Although it is only carried out in the Bandung City and Bandung Regency areas, Djoni said, this blood gourd can be accessed by anyone who needs it.

"Residents outside Bandung who need blood, we can help because we cooperate with PMI. We accommodate requests for blood donors, and we will convey them to PMI," he said.

Siti Muntamah, the wife of the late Oded M. Danial, was also present in this activity. Umi, (Siti Muntamah's greeting) really appreciates the routine activity of this blood donor road show.

"Thank you Chinese Community Cares for picking up the ball, helping humanity by donating blood. It turns out that this is routinely held every week. Of course this activity can help the community become healthier, helping the blood needs in Bandung hospitals. This is a good collaboration to present positive solutions , said Umi.

Apparently, in this road show there is one donor who has routinely donated his blood four times every year. His name is Ayi Wahyudin, a middle-aged man who drives an online motorcycle taxi. Since she was a teenager, Ayi has regularly donated blood.

"About 4-5 times a year. Since I was in my 20s until now. Routinely donating blood makes me feel healthier and happier because I can help people," said Ayi. (din)**
