Inviting the Elderly to Stay Healthy, the City Government Holds an Elderly Sports Week

The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) together with the Indonesian Elderly Institute (LLI) of Bandung City will hold the Bandung City Elderly Sports Week (POR Lansia) in 2022 at the Pajajaran Sports Center (GOR) Bandung, 3-4 October 2022.

Pekan Olahraga Lansia (POR Lansia) Kota Bandung Tahun 2022 di Gelanggang Olahraga (GOR) Pajajaran Bandung, 3-4 Oktober 2022.

Head of the Bandung City Youth and Sports Service (Dispora), Eddy Marwoto said, POR Elderly aims to make the elderly more fond of sports and are healthier to make the elderly more productive.

"We want to not only focus on achievement sports, but we also develop community sports, including the elderly," said Eddy when opening the Bandung City Elderly Sports Week (POR Lansia) 2022 at the Pajajaran Sports Center (GOR) Bandung, Monday 3 October 2022.

Carrying the theme of Healthy Elderly Bandung Strong, POR Elderly competed in two sports, namely gymnastics and table tennis.

The Elderly POR was attended by more than 300 participants from 23 sub-districts in the city of Bandung. A total of 17 sub-districts participated in gymnastics and 15 sub-districts participated in table tennis. With participants aged 60 years and over.

"Hopefully this is useful for improving the health status of the community because this gymnastics is a cheap sport and can be done anywhere," he said.

"So that this exercise can be done massively in all corners of the city of Bandung according to our theme, Healthy Elderly, Strong Bandung," he added.

Eddy said that the Elderly POR would be held regularly every year.

"So that the elderly in the city of Bandung are more interested in sports and are healthier. We will continue to activate programs for the elderly," said Eddy.

The winners will receive prizes in the form of trophies, certificates of appreciation and coaching money.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Elderly Institute (LLI) in Bandung, Endang Saepudin, expressed his gratitude for holding this POR for the Elderly.

He admitted that this elderly POR activity was the first activity carried out in Indonesia.

"I am very proud, there has been no activity like this for LLI in Indonesia, I thank the City Government and the extraordinary Dispora which may be the first time in Indonesia," he said.

He hopes that the presence of the Elderly POR can improve the health and productivity of the elderly in the city of Bandung.

"It is hoped that activities like this can continue to run and please improve, hopefully more sports can be competed," he said. (rob)**
