Bandung City Government Distributes Abate, Residents Welcome Enthusiastic Eradication of Mosquito Nests Simultaneously

The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has started distributing abate powder to residents. This marks the start of the Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) simultaneously in 151 sub-districts in Bandung City, Saturday 29 March 2024.

Residents of Bandung City, especially the Gegerkalong sub-district, Sukasari District, welcomed the distribution of Abate powder as an early prevention in dealing with the Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) virus.

Abate is a pesticide that aims to kill mosquito larvae and prevent them from reproducing into adult mosquitoes which will later become the main perpetrators in the spread of dengue fever.

This abate powder is useful for shortening the development cycle of mosquito larvae, so that mosquito larvae will die before they hatch.

For this movement, the Bandung City Government has prepared 300 kilograms of Abate powder and 15 thousand RDTs, a dengue testing tool.

"Today we received Abate powder, immediately to distribute it to every house," said the Head of RW 07, Gegerkalong Village, Sukasari District, Dadang Herawan at the Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) activity in the context of preventing dengue fever in Bandung City, at SMPN 15 Bandung, Friday March 29, 2024.

"Don't let our residents become infected. We anticipate, prevention is better than cure. For example, by spreading this powder," he said.

Dadang also asked the public to be aware of environmental cleanliness.

"I urge residents to protect their homes," he said.

Meanwhile, one of the residents, Eni Suhaeni, was very grateful for the massive prevention carried out by the Bandung City Government.

"The distribution of this powder is very necessary, as a precaution. I would like to thank the government for making efforts to spread this Abate," he said.

In the Gegerkalong sub-district, Sukasari District, Plh. Bandung City Regional Secretary, Hikmat Ginanjar symbolically distributed 10 bottles of Abate to RW representatives.

"We must prioritize cleanliness. This is the main thing, so that the environment is comfortable," said Hikmat.

Hikmat said that the current weather is affecting aspects of life, one of which is the spread of the dengue virus.

"One of them is in the city of Bandung, there are indications that there is a spread of dengue fever so we have to be alert. If you are not fit, immediately go to the health center to be treated by medical personnel," he explained.

In the same place, Secretary of the Bandung City Health Service, Sony Adam, revealed that one way to control dengue fever is by distributing Abate powder.

"To use this, just 1 tablespoon, put it in plastic, then cover it. Then tie it and make a hole, then soak it in a tub or water reservoir. It can be used for 3 months. Mosquito larvae, the mosquito eggs will be killed. So the adult mosquitoes will "The mosquito chain was broken," explained Sony.

He explained that 1 bottle contains 1 kg of powder which is effective in breaking the mosquito chain cycle.

"Take advantage of this powder to distribute it in every house. If it is not enough, we can coordinate with the community health center and the Health Department will follow up to give the powder again. In principle, we fulfill the community's needs for the availability of this powder," he said.

Apart from that, he appealed to the public to continue implementing a Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS) and 3M, namely, Drain, Bury and Cover. (yan)**
